The mining sector is undergoing significant technological change to improve efficiencies and address environmental challenges, such as minimising water impacts and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. While these innovations are crucial for the environmental footprint of the sector, they can also lead to resistance and labour disruptions as old jobs become obsolete and new skills are required. Close cooperation between the public and private sector is necessary to prepare the local workforce and suppliers for these changes.
MinSus provides a platform for governments and the private sector to exchange their strategies in this regard and promotes public-private partnerships that have a technological focus. The program also supports the implementation of research ideas of multidisciplinary student groups that seek to address sustainability challenges in the mining sector.
