Transparency is key in a sector where significant investments are made, revenues are generated, and taxes are collected. Beyond the fiscal debate, information related to socioenvironmental impacts resulting from mining activities are important for local stakeholders to form an opinion about the sector, monitor that projects do not adversely impact their livelihoods and build trust.
MinSus promotes transparency initiatives in the mining sector and is a strong advocator for the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). The programme contributes to the preparation of EITI validation; supports the capacity building around key topics such as environmental payment transparency and beneficial ownership; and promotes the implementation of EITI mechanisms at the sub-national level. Access to relevant socioeconomic data is also a key component in the “sustainable mineral supply chains” workstream.
